Shimla: The Himachal Pradesh government has announced its decision to not induct new IAS and IPS officers into the state cadre. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu stated on Friday that the state does not require 153 IAS officers for a population of approximately 70 lakh, emphasizing a need for administrative efficiency and reducing excess.
In addition to this decision, the Chief Minister also revealed plans to reduce the number of Indian Forest Service (IFS) officers in the state, aligning with the government’s vision to streamline operations and enhance governance.
Addressing media on the sidelines of an event in Solan, Sukhu highlighted the pressing need for infrastructure development in the state, noting that Himachal does not yet have a single international-standard airport. He emphasized that the Central Government should bear the entire cost of constructing such an airport, which would significantly boost the state’s connectivity and economy.
The Chief Minister also urged the Centre to fully fund the construction of critical railway lines, including the Bhanupalli-Beri and Chandigarh-Baddi railway routes, to improve transportation infrastructure.
Regarding road infrastructure, Sukhu pointed out the poor condition of the Solan-Parwanoo four-lane highway, attributing the problem to a flawed design. He mentioned that he had already raised the issue with Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, and requested a redesign and realignment of the highway to enhance its usability and safety.
Sukhu reiterated the state government’s commitment to improving the living standards of the people of Himachal Pradesh. He affirmed that positive reforms are being carried out across various departments, with a focus on minimizing administrative excess and fostering a more efficient and people-centric government.
