In a landmark move aimed at bolstering employee welfare, Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) has launched a Group Personal Accident (GPA) insurance policy that will provide accident coverage to over 2,500 contract and hired personnel. The initiative underscores the shipyard’s commitment to safeguarding the interests of its entire workforce, regardless of employment type.
The policy, implemented in collaboration with New India Assurance Co. Ltd., extends coverage of up to Rs 20 lakh per individual in the event of workplace accidents. Beneficiaries of the scheme include contract workers, apprentices, and trainees, in addition to HSL’s regular employees.
“This is a significant welfare measure and a testament to HSL’s unwavering focus on safety and well-being as critical pillars of our operations,” said Cmde Hemant Khatri, Chairman and Managing Director of HSL. “Our goal is to ensure Safety for All, creating a work environment that is both secure and inclusive.”
As a Ministry of Defence undertaking, HSL plays a key role in India’s naval shipbuilding and repair efforts. The new insurance initiative aligns with the company’s broader vision of inclusive growth and complements ongoing modernisation and expansion efforts.
The introduction of a uniform accident insurance policy marks a progressive step towards building a more equitable and secure workplace, especially for personnel engaged in physically demanding and high-risk tasks.
This latest initiative adds to a growing list of employee-centric reforms by HSL, reflecting its strategic focus on human capital as a core driver of productivity and long-term growth.
