HMEL Signs MoU with IIT Kanpur to Boost Innovation in Sustainable Energy Technologies

Industry-academia collaboration aims to drive research in advanced energy systems, materials, and AI-enabled solutions

Noida: In a major move to strengthen industry-academia collaboration, HPCL-Mittal Energy Limited (HMEL), one of India’s leading integrated energy companies, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT Kanpur). The partnership is geared toward fostering translational research and developing cutting-edge technologies in the energy sector.

The MoU was signed at HMEL’s Corporate Office in Noida in the presence of Mr. Prabh Das, MD & CEO of HMEL, along with senior officials from IIT Kanpur, including Prof. Raja Angamuthu, Associate Dean of Research & Development, and Prof. Jayant Kumar Singh, Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering.

Focus on Sustainable Innovation

The collaboration will target real-world challenges through joint research in areas such as:

  • Sustainable energy technologies
  • Process innovations
  • Advanced materials
  • AI-enabled energy systems

By leveraging the academic expertise of IIT Kanpur and HMEL’s industrial capabilities, the partnership aims to translate innovative ideas into scalable, market-ready solutions.

This MoU marks a shared commitment by both HMEL and IIT Kanpur to accelerate India’s energy transformation through collaborative R&D, bridging the gap between academic research and industrial application, and promoting sustainable growth.
