Mumbai – Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) announced the launch of the New Energy Hybrid Academy (NEHA) – Natural Gas, aimed at upskilling teams in the City Gas Distribution (CGD) sector. The initiative was inaugurated by Director–HR K S Shetty.
HPCL unveiled NEHA–Natural Gas alongside celebrating the commercial commissioning of its 5 MMTPA Chhara LNG regasification terminal in Gujarat. The development marks HPCL’s deepening commitment to increasing natural gas use in India’s energy mix, currently at ~6%, with aims to reach 15% by 2030.
NEHA Aims to Build Pipeline of Skilled Professionals
NEHA will offer training and workshops to enhance technical and operational skills across CGD geographies. Shetty emphasized:
“Natural gas is key to India’s evolving energy mix,” adding the academy will foster collaboration and ensure a ready talent pool for the gas sector.
Participants from various locations and organizations attended, reinforcing HPCL’s resolve to build a sustainable and innovative energy ecosystem.
HPCL’s Clean Energy Transition Momentum
NEHA aligns with HPCL’s wider sustainability roadmap, which includes:
- 24 CBG plants under development at a ₹2,000 crore (~$231 million) investment
- A 370 TPA green hydrogen plant at Vizag refinery
- Over 200 MW renewable capacity, aiming for 16 GW by 2030
- Solarisation of retail outlets and biodiesel adoption
Strategic Impact on India’s Energy Balance
By launching NEHA, HPCL strengthens India’s natural gas infrastructure and cultivates a qualified workforce. These moves support the government’s targets of increasing gas usage to 15% by 2030 and achieving net-zero emissions by 2070.
