Another Strategic Milestone for HSL
The successful delivery of Nistar marks a key milestone in HSL’s transformation from a builder of auxiliary vessels and tugs to a producer of advanced strategic assets. This achievement follows the earlier delivery of the surveillance ship INS Dhruv in 2020, underscoring HSL’s growing capabilities in high-tech naval construction.
Indigenously Designed and Built
Nistar has been designed and built indigenously, equipped with state-of-the-art diving systems and Dynamic Positioning Class-II (DP-II) capabilities. This advanced vessel is vital for underwater support operations and enhances the Indian Navy’s maritime capabilities.
Aligned with ‘Make in India’ Vision
The vessel’s development is in line with the Government of India’s flagship ‘Make in India’ programme. It highlights the increasing contribution of Indian shipyards in building critical defence infrastructure and reflects India’s push towards self-reliance in the defence sector.
Strengthening Maritime Defence Infrastructure
With Nistar now part of the Indian Navy’s fleet, the delivery further solidifies India’s indigenous shipbuilding prowess and demonstrates the Navy’s growing focus on modernising and expanding its underwater operational capabilities.
