Delhi: In a significant step towards promoting environmental sustainability and responsible waste management, Housing and Urban Development Corporation Ltd. (HUDCO) has commenced a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project for sustainable solid waste management at the National Security Guard (NSG) Campus in Manesar.
The Bhumi Pujan ceremony for the project was held on February 9, 2026, in the distinguished presence of Mr Brigu Srinivasan, an IPS officer of 1992 batch from Bihar cadre and Director General of NSG; Mr Deepak Kedia, a 1999 batch IPS officer from Assam-Meghalaya cadre and Inspector General, NSG; and Mr M. Nagaraj, Director (Corporate Planning), HUDCO, along with senior officials from both organisations.
MoU Signed for Comprehensive MSW Management Across 1,700 Acres
The initiative follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between HUDCO and NSG on January 21, 2026. The MoU provides for the implementation of comprehensive and sustainable Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) management practices across the sprawling 1,700-acre NSG campus at Manesar.
The project aims to establish an integrated waste management system designed to streamline waste collection, processing, recycling, and disposal within the campus.
Integrated Waste Management System with 5–7 TPD Capacity
The project encompasses:
- Door-to-door waste collection from all waste generation points within the campus
- Transportation of collected waste to a dedicated Material Recovery Facility (MRF)
- Scientific processing and environmentally sound disposal of waste
- The facility has been designed with a total processing capacity of 5–7 tonnes per day (TPD).
A key feature of the project is a 2-tonne biogas plant, which will process organic waste generated from residential buildings and 52 canteens within the campus. The organic waste will be converted into biogas, which will replace LPG consumption for cooking in one of the larger canteens, thereby reducing fossil fuel dependency.
Scientific Segregation and Recycling of Dry Waste
The project is being implemented by Blue Planet Environmental Solutions India Pvt. Ltd., New Delhi.
Under the system, dry waste collected from the campus will be segregated into multiple streams, including:
- Plastics
- Metals
- Glass
- Cardboard
The segregated materials will then be sent for recycling, ensuring minimal landfill disposal and maximum resource recovery.
The initiative is expected to:
- Enhance overall sanitation across the NSG premises
- Reduce the carbon footprint associated with waste dumping
- Prevent up to 2,000 tonnes of waste annually from reaching landfills
Environmental Stewardship as a National Responsibility
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Brigu Srinivasan, Director General, NSG, emphasized that environmental sustainability is integral to national security.
“Environmental stewardship is an integral part of national security. This Integrated Waste Management Facility demonstrates how defence establishments can lead by example in adopting sustainable, efficient, and future-ready infrastructure,” he said.
Mr Krishna Kumar Gaur, Head IR, DRIIV under the Office of the Principal Scientific Advisor to the Government of India, remarked that the facility reflects a strong commitment to incorporating technological interventions for sustainable growth.
HUDCO Reaffirms Commitment to Sustainable Development
Mr Sanjay Kulshrestha, CMD, HUDCO, described the initiative as a significant milestone in strengthening environmental sustainability through impactful CSR support to national institutions.
He emphasized that such collaborations promote responsible waste management practices and contribute to long-term ecological well-being.
The project reinforces HUDCO’s focus on sustainable urban development and environmental stewardship, while also strengthening NSG’s commitment to maintaining a clean, efficient, and environmentally responsible campus.
