A Secunderabad court has acquitted a 52-year-old Hyderabad man who had been accused of impersonating a senior IAS officer in a ₹4 lakh cheating case involving a land deal in Jubilee Hills.
The case, which dates back to July 2016, was registered at the Bowenpally police station. The accused allegedly posed as an official from the General Administration Department at the state secretariat and convinced a property developer that he could facilitate the sale and development of a plot owned by his sister, supposedly a pediatrician based in the United States.
Believing the claims, the developer issued cheques totaling ₹4 lakh as an advance. However, the deal fell through, prompting the developer to file a police complaint. Although the FIR initially named the accused’s sister and a mutual friend, charges were eventually framed only against the main accused.
The court, in its judgment, noted several lapses in the police investigation. These included the failure to verify the accused’s employment status, inspect the said property, or gather any documentation related to the alleged development agreement. Additionally, no bank statements were produced to support the claim that the cheques were encashed in connection with a fraudulent transaction.
The builder, for his part, failed to provide clarity on the land documents he allegedly received, and the case lacked independent witnesses to support the allegations.
Citing the absence of key evidence and procedural diligence, the court ruled in favor of the accused, granting him the benefit of the doubt and acquitting him of all charges.
