New Delhi: The Government of India has approved the repatriation of senior IAS and IFS officers to their respective state cadres, marking notable reshuffles within the civil services framework.
Aravind Kumar Returns to Punjab Cadre Post Central Deputation
Aravind Kumar M.K., IAS (Punjab:2011), who was on central deputation in the Ministry of Power as Deputy Secretary, has been relieved from central deputation and is going back to the Punjab cadre. This premature repatriation is part of a cadre restructure and the officer will take on new responsibilities in the state government.
Aravind Kumar has been involved in important projects in India’s power infrastructure and renewable energy sectors. His return to Punjab is perceived as an effort to strengthen key administrative positions at a state level, particularly in the energy or infrastructure fields.
A.K. Mohanty Repatriated to Sikkim Cadre
Additionally, Anjan Kumar Mohanty, a 1992 batch Indian Forest Service (IFS) officer, presently serving as Additional Director General of Forests (ADGF) in the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC), New Delhi, has been approved for premature repatriation to his parent cadre – Sikkim. His return is aimed at strengthening the state’s forest administration and environmental governance.
These repatriations are seen as part of broader strategic cadre management efforts, ensuring experienced officers contribute directly to governance and developmental needs at the state level.
Strategic Implications of Reassignments
These repatriations reflect an ongoing effort by both the Centre and States to align top bureaucratic talent with evolving governance priorities. Officers returning to their parent cadres often play pivotal roles in implementing flagship schemes, handling upcoming elections, or managing critical state portfolios.
Such cadre reshuffles are common in the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), especially when officers have completed a significant portion of their central deputation or are needed urgently in state roles.
