Arjit Mahajan Appointed Under Secretary in Assam Finance Department
Arjit Mahajan, currently serving as Additional District Commissioner in-charge of Bijni Sub-Division, has been transferred and posted as Under Secretary in the Finance Department of Assam. In addition, he has been assigned an additional charge with the Commissionerate of Taxes.
Mahajan, a young officer from the 2022 IAS batch, has been actively engaged in sub-divisional administration and is now transitioning into a more policy-oriented role at the state headquarters.
IRS Officer Abhishek Kumar Posted in Ministry of Textiles
In another key appointment, Abhishek Kumar, a 2015-batch officer of the Indian Revenue Service (Customs & Indirect Taxes), has been posted as Deputy Secretary in the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India. His appointment falls under the Central Staffing Scheme (CSS).
The Department of Revenue recommended Kumar for central deputation, which has now been approved by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT). As per the official notification, Kumar will serve a four-year tenure, starting from the date of his assumption of charge or until further orders.
The DoPT has instructed his immediate relieving from current duties, emphasizing an expedited transition to his new assignment in the Ministry of Textiles.
Significance of the Appointments
Both postings reflect the government’s ongoing efforts to rotate and reposition officers to align administrative needs with talent and experience. While Mahajan’s move strengthens financial oversight in Assam’s state apparatus, Kumar’s deputation aims to bring taxation and regulatory expertise to the textiles sector, which is undergoing multiple reforms.
