Bhuvnesh Kumar has officially assumed the role of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI).
A 1995-batch IAS officer from the Uttar Pradesh cadre, Kumar also continues his responsibilities as Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). He succeeds Amit Agrawal, who has been appointed as the new Secretary of Pharmaceuticals.
A graduate and gold medallist from the National Institute of Technology, Kurukshetra, Kumar has an extensive administrative career. He has held key positions at both the central government and in Uttar Pradesh. His previous roles include serving as Joint Secretary in MeitY and Principal Secretary for the Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development, and Fisheries in Uttar Pradesh. He also contributed as Secretary of Finance, MSME, and Technical Education, as well as Divisional Commissioner in the Department of Land Revenue in the state government.
Kumar’s wealth of experience in governance and technology underscores his readiness to lead UIDAI, the organisation responsible for managing Aadhaar, India’s biometric identification system.
