New Delhi: In a key administrative move, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the extension of IAS officer Govind Jaiswal’s central deputation tenure as Joint Secretary in the Department of Higher Education for an additional period of two years.
The decision, communicated via an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, extends Jaiswal’s tenure beyond October 11, 2025, up to October 11, 2027, or until further orders—whichever is earlier.
A Career Spanning Health and Education Policy
Govind Jaiswal, a 2007-batch IAS officer of the AGMUT cadre, began his central deputation in October 2020, when he was appointed as Deputy Secretary in the Department of Health & Family Welfare for a four-year term. After being empanelled for Joint Secretary-level roles, he was appointed as Joint Secretary in the Department of Higher Education in July 2023.
At the time of this elevation, the remaining period of his central deputation was set to end on October 11, 2025. The latest decision allows him to continue for a full two additional years, ensuring continuity in higher education initiatives during a crucial policy phase.
Key Role in Higher Education Reforms
As Joint Secretary, Jaiswal is responsible for contributing to key reforms and initiatives under the National Education Policy (NEP 2020), including digital transformation in education, institutional restructuring, and quality assurance frameworks. His extended tenure is expected to provide stability to the ministry’s long-term policy roadmap and execution of reforms.
His administrative background and cross-sectoral experience are seen as assets in managing the complex and evolving higher education ecosystem in India.
