New Delhi: Senior IAS officer Kamini Ratan Chauhan (IAS:1997:UP) has been relieved from her central deputation to rejoin her parent cadre in Uttar Pradesh. Chauhan served as Additional Secretary and Financial Adviser in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, completing nearly three years at the Ministry.
Ms Chauhan first moved to the Ministry on November 22, 2022, after previously holding a central deputation from December 2019 as Joint Secretary in the Department of Higher Education. She continued in this role until her empanelment for Additional Secretary–level posts in October 2022, following which she was appointed to her current position in the Petroleum Ministry on November 19, 2022.
Her return to the UP cadre marks the conclusion of an eventful tenure at the Centre, where she contributed to policy formulation and financial oversight in the energy sector.

Rajesh Pradhan Repatriated to Maharashtra Cadre
Senior IPS officer Rajesh Pradhan (IPS:2003:MH), currently serving as Joint Director in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), has been prematurely repatriated to his parent cadre in Maharashtra, according to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on November 25, 2025.
Mr Pradhan had been appointed on central deputation to the CBI on October 28, 2021, for a five-year tenure. Before joining the CBI, he served as Special IG, Marine Security and Intelligence Department, Maharashtra Police. He was elevated to Joint Director in the CBI in July 2023, with his deputation originally scheduled to continue until January 30, 2027.
The early repatriation has led to speculation that the Maharashtra government may assign Pradhan to a significant role in the state administration, potentially leveraging his central experience for strategic state-level responsibilities.
Significance of Repatriations
These movements highlight the routine yet impactful nature of central deputations and repatriations in India’s administrative system. Officers like Chauhan and Pradhan bring valuable experience from the Centre back to their state cadres, potentially influencing policy and governance at the state level.
