New Delhi: The Central Government has approved key appointments in the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, reflecting continued focus on bolstering industrial policy and infrastructure development under initiatives like PM GatiShakti.
M Arvind Appointed Director in DPIIT
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of M Arvind, a 2011-batch IAS officer of the Tamil Nadu cadre, as Director in DPIIT. The order was issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on September 30, 2025.
Arvind’s posting is under the Central Staffing Scheme (CSS) for a period of five years from the date of taking charge or until further orders, whichever is earlier. He has been instructed to relieve his current duties immediately and report to the DPIIT headquarters in New Delhi.
Prashant Kumar (IRSME) Appointed Director in Technical Support Unit, DPIIT
In a parallel move, Prashant Kumar, a 2011-batch officer of the Indian Railway Service of Mechanical Engineers (IRSME), has been appointed as Director in the Technical Support Unit (TSU) under DPIIT.
His tenure is set for a combined period of five years, ending on September 18, 2027, including both ex-cadre and Central Staffing Scheme deputation. However, this is also co-terminus with the implementation timeline of the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan (PMGS NMP), whichever is earlier.
Prashant Kumar was recommended for deputation by the Ministry of Railways and has been directed to assume his new role immediately at the DPIIT in New Delhi.
Strategic Significance
These appointments come at a time when the DPIIT is driving high-impact national initiatives like Make in India, PM GatiShakti, and Startup India. With infrastructure planning and inter-ministerial coordination gaining urgency, the induction of experienced officers like M Arvind and Prashant Kumar is expected to reinforce the DPIIT’s strategic capacity and execution bandwidth.
