Bhopal: After the controversy surrounding IAS officer Santosh Kumar Verma had barely subsided, another video involving a senior bureaucrat from Madhya Pradesh has triggered fresh debate. A viral video of 2013 batch IAS officer Meenakshi Singh, reportedly from an AJAKS conference held in Bhopal on November 23, has led to strong reactions, particularly from members of upper-caste organisations.
The remarks, which focus on caste identity and community solidarity, have sparked social and political discussion across the state.
What Did IAS Meenakshi Singh Say?
In the viral clip, IAS Meenakshi Singh is seen addressing participants at an event organised by AJAKS (Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Officers and Employees Association) at Ambedkar Park, Bhopal.
She stated that in present times, caste identity has become important, arguing that discrimination often occurs based on surnames. She urged members of Scheduled Caste and Tribal communities to recognise their identity, support each other, and engage collectively.
According to the video, she said that the family is the first link of social organisation and children should be aware of their caste identity. She also appealed to people from SC/ST communities not to hesitate in approaching officers from their community, emphasising dialogue and engagement for social improvement.

Reaction from Upper-Caste Organisations
The remarks drew sharp criticism from several upper-caste groups. Pushpendra Mishra, State President of the All India Brahmin Society, expressed displeasure, stating that such comments from senior bureaucrats are divisive in nature.
He said that IAS officers take an oath to uphold the Constitution, which guarantees equality. He warned that if officers work with a caste-based mindset, it poses a serious concern for administrative neutrality. He also demanded strict action from Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, cautioning that the community would not remain silent if no steps were taken.
Link to Earlier Santosh Verma Controversy
The controversy comes close on the heels of remarks made by IAS Santosh Kumar Verma, who also spoke at the same AJAKS conference. His comments had triggered protests nationwide, following which the state government removed him from the Agriculture Department and attached him to the Ministry.
With another IAS officer’s remarks now under scrutiny, questions are being raised about the growing number of bureaucratic controversies in Madhya Pradesh.
