Significance of the Extension
These extensions ensure continuity in administrative leadership across key ministries and central departments. Officers serving at the Additional Secretary level are often responsible for policy formulation, strategic planning, and high-level administration, and these extensions allow the government to leverage their expertise without disruption.
The DoPT order underscores the government’s focus on maintaining institutional memory, efficient governance, and smooth policy implementation at the senior bureaucratic level.
