In a bureaucratic reshuffle in Uttar Pradesh, 2017 batch IAS officer Akshat Verma has been given a big responsibility. He has been appointed as the new Municipal Commissioner of Varanasi. He was serving as the Chief Development Officer (CDO) of Sitapur district before this new posting.

Mr. Verma had been transferred earlier in March this year but it was subsequently cancelled. He was CDO in Sitapur and got transferred to Prayagraj as CDO but this order was cancelled and he remained as the CDO of Sitapur.

The young officer hails from Ayodhya. He was born on 6 September 1990. His father is a doctor in the Ayodhya District Hospital.

His primary education was completed from Army School in Ayodhya itself. After that, he completed his B.Tech from IIT Roorkee in 2012.

While pursuing B.Tech, he also did internship at the Beijing Jiaotong University, China. After completing engineering, Akshat Verma became an assistant engineer in the Ministry of Road Transport.

Along with this, he also started preparing for civil services exam. First, he cracked the exam and got selected as IRS in 2015 by securing 667th rank. Thereafter, he worked as Assistant Commissioner in the Income Tax Department.

But, his dream was IAS and that is why even after getting selected in IRS, he did not stop and continued preparing for UPSC CSE.

He passed the CSE once again and became an IAS officer of 2017 batch. He took charge as Assistant Magistrate in Shahjahanpur district on 27 April, 2018.

He remained posted as Assistant Magistrate of Shahjahanpur till 24 September, 2019.

After that, the government transferred him from Shahjahanpur and posted him as Joint Magistrate in Unnao district. International Organization for Standardization appreciated the efforts of Mr. Verma in providing facilities to the general public by fixing accountability of services while holding the post of Bangarmau SDM of Unnao district. Officials of the organization reached the tehsil office and handed over the ISO certificate to him.

Hereafter, he has been posted as Chief Development Officer in Sitapur from the year 2021 onwards.
