The Nagaland Police have registered an FIR against IAS officer Reny Wilfred following allegations of sexual assault by multiple women. The complaint, initially received by the Nagaland State Women’s Commission (NSCW) in February, was forwarded to the police after the commission recorded the victims’ statements. Nagaland DGP Rupin Sharma confirmed that an investigation is underway.
In response, the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms relieved Wilfred of his roles as Joint Secretary of Planning and Transformation and the Industrial Development Authority through a notification issued on April 4.
This is not the first accusation against Wilfred. In 2021, while serving as Deputy Commissioner of Noklak, he was accused of assaulting two minor girls from the Khiamniungan Naga community. A police inquiry then found him prima facie guilty, leading to a charge sheet under the POCSO Act. However, the Supreme Court stayed the trial in 2023. The latest case revives serious concerns over his conduct.
