IAS officer Sonal Goel, Secretary to the Government of Tripura, received the ‘Empowerment & Development Woman Award’ at the International Women’s Day 2025 event in Bangkok, hosted by the UNPKFC and UNA-USA.
Goel highlighted how Modi government policies shifted the focus from ‘women’s development to women-led development,’ promoting gender equity. A 2008 batch officer, she has led initiatives like Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao and set up Tripura’s first all-women polling booth in 2010.
The event featured global women leaders, including Dr. Aphinita Chaichana (UNPKFC President), Karen Cantrell (UNA-USA President), and Princess Isabelle Lafforgue.
Sharing the honor on X (formerly Twitter), Goel wrote, “This recognition belongs to every girl who dares to dream and every woman who refuses to give up.” Recently, she also spoke at the House of Lords in London, further cementing her advocacy for women’s empowerment.
