IAS officer Ranendra Kumar will get Sri Lal Shukla Smriti IFFCO Sahitya Samman this year for his contribution to literature. Mr. Kumar is very popular as a Hindi Writer and he is the 10th recipient of the prestigious award. Besides a citation, he will receive a memento and a cheque for Rs 11 lakh. This award was started in 2011.
The selection committee said in a release, “Ranendra has chosen tribal life as the theme of his writings and deeply observed social, economic and cultural changes the tribal society underwent in this age of globalisation”. Mr. Kumar is best known for his collections of poems and shorts stories. He has also written three novels. The first one named Gungi Rulai ka Chorus, was published in 1988. While, the second one Global Gaon Ke Devta and third one named Gayab Hota Desh, was published 2006 and 2014 respectively. He has also edited a four-part Jharkhand Encyclopedia.
Mr. Kumar work has always been appreciated by the readers and the critics as well. He has been honoured several times for the contribution in the literature. He has won the J C Joshi Smriti Janpriya Lekhak Samman in 2010 for his novel, Global Gaon ke Devta. He has also received Banarasi Prasad Bhojpuri Samman in 2013 and Banmali Katha Samman in 2019.
