In a historic achievement for Indian Para Badminton, 2007 batch IAS officer of UP cadre, Mr Suhas LY has clinched the top spot in the latest rankings released by the Badminton World Federation (BWF).
Emerging as the new world number 1 in the Men’s Singles category, Mr Suhas has surpassed the long-standing leader, Lucas Mazur of France, marking his first-ever ascent to the pinnacle of the sport.
Mr. Suhas is currently posted in Sports Department of Uttar Pradesh as Secretary. He is India’s first IAS officer to win a medal at the Paralympics.
Expressing gratitude for the support received, he attributed this remarkable milestone to the encouragement and blessings of supporters worldwide.
This achievement not only underscores his dedication and perseverance but also signifies a momentous triumph for Indian para sports.
With this achievement, he aims to inspire aspiring athletes and continue representing India on the global stage with pride and determination.
Mr Suhas informed the news himself by posting on social media: “Finally World Number 1. Happy to share that, in the latest Badminton World Federation Para Badminton rankings announced today for the Men’s Singles category, I have achieved the world number 1 ranking for the first time in my life, replacing the previously long-standing world number 1, Lucas Mazur of France. Thanks a lot for your blessings and wishes.”
A Computer Engineering graduate from the National Institute of Technology, Suratkal, Karnataka, Mr. Suhas has served as the District Magistrate of Gautam Buddh Nagar and Aazamgarh in UP. He hails from Karnataka and was born to late Yathiraj L K and Jayashree C S in Hassan, Karnataka.
Apart from being a famous IAS officer, he is also a well-known para badminton player. He has won many medals in international tournaments, including Tokyo Paralympic Games in 2021. He won the silver and bronze medal in the last two Para Olympics.
