New Delhi: The Government of India has appointed Manish Gupta, a senior Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer of the 1998 batch, as the next Ambassador of India to the Republic of Ireland, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced on Friday.
Mr. Gupta, who is currently serving as the High Commissioner of India to Ghana, is expected to take up his new assignment in Dublin shortly, the MEA said in its official statement.
“Shri Manish Gupta (IFS: 1998), presently High Commissioner of India to the Republic of Ghana, has been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to the Republic of Ireland,” the MEA statement read.
Distinguished Career in the Indian Foreign Service
A career diplomat with over 25 years of experience, Mr. Gupta has served in various capacities both in India and abroad. He has held key positions in New Delhi, New York, Istanbul, Sydney, Dakar, and Brussels, representing India in multiple strategic and multilateral forums.
During his tenure at the Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations (New York) from 2009 to 2013, he served as Political Counsellor and Coordinator for India at the UN Counter-Terrorism Committee. He also represented India on the Executive Boards of the UNDP and UNICEF.
Extensive International Experience
Mr. Gupta has previously served as Consul General of India in Istanbul, Turkey (2013–2016) and Consul General in Sydney, Australia. His early overseas postings include assignments in Brussels (2000–2002) and Dakar (2002–2005).
As High Commissioner to Ghana, he has worked to strengthen India’s diplomatic, trade, and cultural engagement with West African nations.
Significant Roles at MEA Headquarters
At the Ministry of External Affairs headquarters, Mr. Gupta served as Joint Secretary for Overseas Indian Affairs (2016–2019), where he oversaw key portfolios including migration and mobility, labour and manpower, emigration policy, and welfare of Overseas Indians.
He also held the position of CEO of the India Centre for Migration (ICM), a think tank under the MEA focused on international migration and diaspora engagement. Earlier in his career, he worked as a desk officer for Nepal in the Ministry’s Northern Division (2005–2009).
Educational Background and Personal Life
Manish Gupta holds a Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University (IIT-BHU).
He is married to Nimeesha Gupta and the couple has one son.
