Tokyo/New Delhi: Nagma Mohamed Mallick, an Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer of 1991 batch and the current Ambassador of India to Japan, has been concurrently accredited as the next Ambassador of India to the Republic of Marshall Islands, with residence in Tokyo. Her diplomatic journey began in Paris, where she served at the Indian Embassy and the Indian Mission to UNESCO.
In New Delhi, she held multiple positions within the Ministry of External Affairs, including –
- Desk Officer in the West Europe Division
- Personal staff officer to Prime Minister I.K. Gujral in the Prime Minister’s Office
- Deputy Chief of Protocol (Ceremonial), becoming the first woman to hold this prestigious post

- First Secretary in Nepal, where she served as Head of the Commercial Wing and contributed to negotiations on the India-Nepal Treaty of Trade

Early Life and Education
Born on April 22, 1967, in New Delhi to Keralite parents from Kasaragod, Nagma Mallick attended St. Stephen’s College and the Delhi School of Economics. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in English Literature and a Master’s degree in Sociology.
Before joining the IFS, she had a brief stint as a TV and stage actress, appearing in India’s first television soap opera, Hum Log.

Nagma Mallick is married to Farid Inam Mallick, a lawyer based in New Delhi, and the couple has one son and one daughter. She is multilingual, fluent in English, French, Hindi, Urdu, and Malayalam.
