Bhubaneswar: Six Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officers of the 2025 batch, currently undergoing state-specific training at the Gopabandhu Academy of Administration (GAA), Bhubaneswar, paid a courtesy visit to Odisha Chief Secretary Anu Garg on Tuesday.
Chief Secretary Highlights Odisha’s Development and Vision
During the interaction, Chief Secretary Anu Garg held an extensive discussion with the trainee officers, sharing insights into Odisha’s development journey and its future vision. She emphasized the importance of gaining a deep understanding of the state before the officers go on to represent India and its states both domestically and internationally.
“State-specific exposure plays a crucial role in shaping well-informed and effective administrators and diplomats. In this context, the training being imparted in Odisha assumes special significance,” she noted.

Overview of Odisha’s Governance and Development
The Chief Secretary elaborated on various facets of the state’s administration, including:
- Agriculture: Key initiatives and growth strategies
- Industrial Development: Opportunities and policy support
- Natural Resources: Sustainable utilization and management
- Tourism Potential: Heritage and cultural landmarks
- Disaster Management: Preparedness and mitigation efforts
- Skill Development Initiatives: Programs for youth empowerment
She also shared insights into the state’s policy priorities and administrative challenges, offering the officers a comprehensive view of Odisha’s governance framework.
Training Program Itinerary
As part of their state-specific training, the IFS officers are scheduled to visit several districts, including Daringbadi in Kandhamal, and explore heritage and cultural sites such as the Konark Sun Temple. The field visits aim to provide hands-on exposure to local governance, developmental initiatives, and community engagement.
