New Delhi: Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, on Tuesday inaugurated the new corporate office of Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) at the World Trade Centre, Nauroji Nagar, New Delhi. The event marked a significant milestone in IGL’s growth journey and its expanding role in India’s clean energy transition.
Smart Gas Meter Manufacturing Facility Launched
On the occasion, the Minister also launched a Smart Gas Meter Manufacturing facility, developed in collaboration with Genesis Gas Solutions. The facility, which is expected to start production in October 2025, will have the capacity to manufacture one million smart and prepaid meters annually. This initiative aims to strengthen India’s self-reliance in gas meter manufacturing while enhancing IGL’s ability to offer efficient, affordable, and technology-driven services.
IGL’s Expanding Reach and Impact
Commending IGL’s contributions to India’s City Gas Distribution (CGD) sector, Puri highlighted key achievements:
- 956 CNG stations operated by IGL — about 12% of the national total
- 22 lakh vehicles fuelled daily
- Over 30.7 lakh households connected with Piped Natural Gas (PNG)
- 9.3 MMSCMD of gas supplied to 5,300 industries and 7,100 commercial establishments
- PNG access extended to 250 villages in Delhi, benefiting over 1 lakh rural households
Emphasis on Clean Energy and Innovation
Puri also emphasized the government’s broader energy vision. He announced that 25 lakh new LPG connections were distributed on the first day of Navratri under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, bringing the total number of beneficiaries to 10.6 crore. He further referred to positive hydrocarbon exploration results in the Andaman region, pointing to India’s growing energy potential.
Digital Transformation and EV Infrastructure
Highlighting IGL’s focus on digital innovation, Puri praised the company’s adoption of SAP-ERP systems, GIS, data analytics dashboards, automated meter reading, and e-billing solutions. He noted that these advancements are setting new benchmarks in service delivery in the CGD sector.
Additionally, IGL is expanding into EV charging infrastructure, with facilities already operational at 40 stations and plans for further growth in this segment.

Congratulating the IGL team, the Minister said the new office represents more than physical expansion—it is a symbol of IGL’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and playing a key role in India’s clean energy future.
