Rabat: In a significant step towards deepening bilateral defence relations, India’s Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Morocco’s Minister Delegate to the Head of Government in charge of the National Defence Administration, Mr. Abdeltif Loudiyi, held a high-level meeting in Rabat on Monday. The meeting culminated in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on defence cooperation, marking a new phase in strategic engagement between the two countries.
Institutional Framework for Defence Partnership
The newly signed MoU establishes a robust institutional framework to expand and formalize defence ties. It lays the foundation for collaboration in military training, joint exercises, defence industry cooperation, capacity building, and expert exchanges—all aimed at enhancing interoperability and shared defence capabilities.
Both sides acknowledged the need for comprehensive and structured engagement in the field of defence, especially amid evolving global security challenges.

During the meeting, the two defence leaders agreed on a comprehensive roadmap for defence collaboration covering:

This roadmap will help in aligning strategic interests and foster joint efforts to address emerging threats across land, air, sea, and cyberspace domains.
New Defence Wing at Indian Embassy in Rabat
In a major announcement, Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh declared the opening of a dedicated Defence Wing at the Embassy of India in Rabat. This step is expected to accelerate defence diplomacy and ensure smoother coordination between both nations’ armed forces and defence establishments.
India Showcases Defence Industry Strength
Highlighting India’s strides in indigenous defence manufacturing, Rajnath Singh assured Moroccan leadership of India’s capabilities in defence technology, including advanced drone and counter-drone systems. He noted that Indian companies are well-positioned to cater to Morocco’s military requirements and invited them to explore co-development and co-production opportunities.
Shared Vision for Maritime and Multilateral Security
Recognizing the strategic relevance of the Indian Ocean and Atlantic corridors, both Ministers emphasized the importance of maritime domain awareness and multilateral coordination in addressing regional and global security challenges. The discussions reflected a growing convergence in strategic outlook and mutual interest in peace and stability across key maritime routes.
Strengthening Diplomatic and Military Exchanges
The two sides committed to enhancing exchanges between their Armed Forces, facilitating training programs, and increasing high-level visits. In this spirit, Rajnath Singh extended a formal invitation to Mr. Loudiyi to visit India for further discussions on expanding defence and security cooperation.
