The Indian Army contingent has arrived in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, to participate in the Multinational Military Exercise KHAAN QUEST 2025, scheduled from 14th to 28th June. The exercise, which aims to enhance global peacekeeping cooperation, will see participation from armed forces across the world, building military readiness and interoperability in United Nations-mandated peace support operations.
Exercise KHAAN QUEST, now in its 22nd edition, originally began as a bilateral initiative between the United States and Mongolian Armed Forces in 2003. It has since evolved into a major multinational peacekeeping drill from 2006 onwards. The 2024 edition was held from 27th July to 9th August in Mongolia.
The Indian Army is participating with a 40-member contingent primarily comprising personnel from a battalion of the Kumaon Regiment, along with troops from various Arms and Services. Notably, one woman officer and two women soldiers are also part of the delegation, underscoring India’s commitment to inclusive military participation.
The aim of Exercise KHAAN QUEST is to prepare military forces for peacekeeping operations under Chapter VII of the UN Charter. It emphasizes joint tactical planning, physical fitness, and coordination in a multinational setup. Participating troops will practice a range of tactical drills including establishment of static and mobile checkpoints, cordon and search operations, civilian evacuation from hostile zones, counter-IED drills, combat first aid, and casualty evacuation.
The exercise serves as a platform for sharing best practices in tactics, techniques, and procedures, and plays a vital role in fostering camaraderie, mutual understanding, and cooperation among the participating nations. The Indian Army contingent has arrived in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, to participate in the Multinational Military Exercise KHAAN QUEST 2025, scheduled from 14th to 28th June.
