Port Louis/New Delhi – As part of its operational deployment to the South West Indian Ocean Region (IOR), INS Teg, a frontline stealth frigate of the Indian Navy’s Western Naval Command, successfully concluded a significant port call at Port Louis, Mauritius on 22 June 2025. The visit marked a powerful reinforcement of India’s maritime diplomacy and strategic cooperation with Mauritius.
Joint Surveillance of EEZ and Maritime Security
During deployment, INS Teg conducted coordinated surveillance of the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) of Mauritius in collaboration with the Mauritius National Coast Guard (NCG) in the form of joint operations deploying ships and aircraft to support the combined effort. The joint effort was a showcase of the commitment by both countries to enhance security in the Indian Ocean region and address the issue of Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) fishing.

High-Level Interactions Cement Bilateral Ties
Captain Vikas Guleria, the commander of INS Teg, had discussions with a number of Senior Mauritian officers including the Commissioner of Police Mr. Rampersad Sooroojebally, Cabinet Secretary Mr. Suresh Seebaluck, Secretary for Home Affairs Mrs. Kan Oye Fong Weng Poorun and Indian High Commissioner Mr Anurag Srivastava. These engagements facilitated enhanced understanding while deepening strategic diplomatic and defense ties
Capacity Building and Technical Assistance
In a strong display of naval cooperation, personnel from the Mauritius NCG received hands-on training onboard INS Teg in key areas such as firefighting, damage control, bridge and engine room watchkeeping, and small arms handling. The Indian Navy also conducted diving demonstrations post-sailing. Additionally, INS Teg’s technical team extended support to CGS Valiant, helping operationalize a diesel generator, a gesture warmly appreciated by the NCG.
Cultural Diplomacy: Yoga and Sports Engagement
Celebrating International Day of Yoga 2025, a large-scale yoga session was organized on 21 June, bringing together over 150 participants, including senior Mauritian officials, NCG personnel, and INS Teg’s crew. The session showcased the role of soft diplomacy in naval engagements. Recreational and sports activities such as treks and a volleyball match were also held, strengthening people-to-people connections and camaraderie.
Symbol of India’s Commitment to Indian Ocean Region
INS Teg’s port call was emblematic of India’s increased status as a net security provider in the Indian Ocean Region and brought attention to India’s proactive maritime engagements with friendly nations. Also, the visit demonstrated operational synergy and interoperability in addition to India’s commitment to enhancing regional security, capacity-building, and cultural connections.
