India is already leading the world in saving this mighty species that was once on the verge of extinction. After witnessing the worst crisis of Tiger conservation by losing the tigers of Sariska (Rajasthan) and Panna (Madhya Pradesh), India has now become the home of around 75% of the global tiger population. On April 9th, Prime Minister Narendra Modi released the Tiger Census which said that the number of tigers in the country has reached 3167. He hailed the efforts of all 51 tiger reserves in the country for this achievement.

Come International Tiger’s Day – 29th of July, Union Forest, Environment and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) Minister Mr Bhupendra Yadav will present a report card of top forest officials of all the states and tiger reserves. He will present the state-wise and tiger reserve-wise data of 2022 Tiger Census. That will be like performance review of top forest mandarins of these states and tiger reserves.

Global Tiger Day aims to create awareness about the efforts in conservation for the mighty tiger and remember the pledge to build a future where humans & tigers can co-exist. This year, the world will focus on raising awareness about tiger extinction and the need to save them.

RESERVES WISE CENSUS WILL BE RELEASED

All the dignitaries from forest department & tiger reserves are expected to participate in program held at Jim Corbett Tiger Reserve, Uttarakhand.  Member Secretary of the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) Dr. SP Yadav will also be present. HISTORY OF TIGER’S DAY

In 2010, the news of 97% of all wild tigers disapperaing and only around 3,000 left alive shook the whole world. It was followed by the Saint Petersburg Tiger Summit in Russia in which the decision to celebrate the International Tiger’s Day on 29th July was taken. Governments of tiger populated countries came forward in 2010 and vowed to double the tiger population. Apart from them various wildlife institution like World Wildlife Fund also celebrate this day with aim to protecting tigers eventually safeguarding the whole ecosystem.
