In a recent administrative development, the Bihar government has ordered the transfer of Mr. Vikram Sihag, a 2020-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the Bihar cadre, following the Dularchand Yadav murder case in Mokama. The decision is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to ensure transparency, accountability, and efficiency in law enforcement operations across the state.
The Home Department, in its directive, appointed Mr. Aparajit Lohan, also a 2020-batch IPS officer of the Bihar cadre, as the new Rural Superintendent of Police (SP). Prior to this appointment, Mr. Lohan was serving as the Traffic SP of Patna district, where he was credited for implementing several measures aimed at improving road discipline and traffic management in the state capital.
Strengthening Law and Order in Rural Bihar
The transfer underscores the administration’s focus on strengthening rural policing and maintaining law and order in sensitive regions. The position of Rural SP plays a crucial role in overseeing crime prevention, community policing, and developmental coordination with local governance bodies.
Mr. Aparajit Lohan’s experience in urban policing and strategic management is expected to enhance operational efficiency in rural areas, bringing a result-oriented approach to the department. His appointment is being viewed as part of the state’s broader strategy to deploy dynamic officers in key field positions.
Mr. Vikram Sihag to Take Charge at Patna Headquarters
Meanwhile, Mr. Vikram Sihag, who was previously holding the Rural SP post, has been reassigned to the Patna Police Headquarters. His new role is expected to involve planning, coordination, and supervision at the administrative level.
The state government’s decision reflects its proactive approach in reviewing postings and ensuring accountability within the system, especially in light of ongoing investigations related to sensitive cases.
Administrative Accountability and Governance Focus
Such transfers are routine in bureaucratic systems, aimed at ensuring the effective delivery of public services and promoting responsive governance. The reshuffle is expected to bring renewed focus to rural policing initiatives, citizen safety, and law enforcement reforms.
The Bihar Police continues to emphasize professionalism, integrity, and modernization in its functioning—values that the new Rural SP is likely to carry forward.
