Mr. Ashish Gupta, a 1989-batch IPS officer of the Uttar Pradesh cadre, has sought voluntary retirement (VRS). Officer Ashish Gupta has served in various significant roles throughout his career. He holds a B.Tech in Computer Science from IIT Kanpur and an MBA from IIM Calcutta. His tenure includes positions such as Director General of Police (Rules & Manuals) in Uttar Pradesh, Additional Director General in the Border Security Force, and Chief Executive Officer of the National Intelligence Grid (NATGRID), an IT framework for counter-terrorism. Gupta also led the Indian contingent in the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in Kosovo from 2000 to 2002. In March 2025, reports emerged that he sought voluntary retirement from service, with discussions attributing his decision to a prolonged period without central deputation and limited responsibilities in recent years.
