Ms. Swain, a 2000-batch IPS officer, will oversee crucial law enforcement operations in Chandel, a strategically significant district that shares its border with Myanmar. “Border fencing, anti-smuggling operations, and preventing infiltration are our top priorities,” said Ms. Swain after taking charge.
She has already initiated discussions with senior police officers to address key challenges in the district. Her appointment comes at a critical time as Manipur was placed under President’s Rule recently.
Prior to this posting, Ms. Swain served briefly as the SP of Tamenglong district. Her earlier stint as a sub-divisional police officer in Imphal East saw her managing flood rescue operations and ensuring peaceful elections during her 13-month tenure.
A graduate of IIIT Bhubaneswar, Ms. Swain completed her plus II from KSUB College, Bhanjanagar. She cracked the civil services examination in 2020 and received training at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy in Hyderabad. She is the daughter of Krushna Chandra Swain, a retired forester from Bhanjanagar.
