In a rare instance of inter-cadre deputation within the Indian Police Service (IPS), 2012-batch IPS officer Om Prakash Meena from the Tamil Nadu cadre has been granted deputation to Rajasthan for a period of three years. This marks the first such deputation to Rajasthan in nearly a decade.
While inter-cadre transfers and deputations are relatively common among IAS officers — with four cadre changes and one deputation to Rajasthan already taking place in 2025 — similar movements remain infrequent in the IPS. The Ministry of Home Affairs approved Meena’s deputation citing ‘personal difficulties,’ as his wife, Anju Omprakash, a 2006-batch Senior RAS officer, is currently serving in the Rajasthan government and is posted as Additional Resident Commissioner in New Delhi. She hails from Jaipur.
About Om Prakash Meena
Om Prakash Meena is also a native of Rajasthan. Before joining the IPS, he served in the Rajasthan Accounts Service from 2006 to 2011, with postings in Jaipur and Kota. He later cleared the Civil Services Examination and joined the IPS, being allotted the Tamil Nadu cadre.
During his service in Tamil Nadu, Meena held the position of Superintendent of Police across five districts and earned commendation for his work during the Covid-19 pandemic in Tirunelveli district.
Now, as he transitions to Rajasthan, Meena will await his posting from the Department of Personnel. With officers from the 2011 batch having been promoted to Deputy Inspector General earlier this year, Meena’s next role in the Rajasthan Police setup is keenly anticipated.
