Hyderabad: A total of 190 officer trainees, including 65 women officers and 16 foreign officers, are set to participate in the Passing Out Parade of the 77th Regular Recruit (RR) batch of the Indian Police Service (IPS) at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA) in Hyderabad on Friday.
This year’s batch reflects a growing trend toward greater gender diversity and international cooperation in India’s premier police training institution.
A Parade of Dedication and Discipline
The officer trainees have successfully completed their Basic Course Training at the Academy, preparing them for key roles in maintaining law and order, tackling crime, and leading law enforcement initiatives across India.

The Passing Out Parade – a ceremonial culmination of rigorous training – will be reviewed by Daljit Singh Chawdhary, Director General of the Border Security Force (BSF). He will also address the probationers, sharing his insights and experiences from decades of service in India’s paramilitary and policing framework.
Women Officers on the Rise
Speaking to the media ahead of the event, SVPNPA Director Amit Garg emphasized the encouraging rise in the number of women IPS officers in training. With 65 women among the 190 graduates, the percentage of female representation in the IPS continues to climb.
“Year by year, we are witnessing an increase in women officer trainees. This marks a positive shift in the gender composition of India’s top police leadership,” Garg said.
The Academy has consistently promoted an inclusive training environment, aiming to build a diverse, equitable, and modern police force.
Diverse Educational and Professional Backgrounds
The 77RR batch represents a rich tapestry of academic disciplines and career paths –
- Engineering: 50%
- Science: 20%
- Arts: 17%
- Commerce & Medicine: 5% each
- Law: 3%
Additionally, 51% of the officers had prior work experience, while 49% are entering the service directly. The average age of the batch is 28 years, with 133 officers unmarried and 41 married.
Global Footprint: 16 Foreign Officers in the Batch
This year’s batch also includes 16 foreign officers from Nepal, Bhutan, and the Maldives—a testament to India’s role in strengthening regional security cooperation and capacity building. These officers have undergone the same intensive training as their Indian counterparts, fostering cross-border bonds and mutual understanding in policing standards and practices.
Rigorous Training Journey
The 77RR batch began their journey at SVPNPA on December 9, 2024, after completing a 15-week Foundation Course at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA), Mussoorie. Their 45-week Phase-I training in Hyderabad has focused on –
Indoor Subjects:
- New criminal laws
- Criminal investigation & forensics
- Cybercrime & IT systems
- Ethics, police management, and human rights
Outdoor Training:
- Physical fitness, weapon handling, unarmed combat
- Yoga, equitation, field craft
- Rock climbing (with ITBP), jungle survival (with Greyhounds), and arms training (with BSF)
Attachments & Field Exposure
Post-parade, probationers will travel to Delhi for central attachments involving:
- Meetings with the President, Prime Minister, Home Minister, National Security Advisor
- Attachments with CAPFs, CPOs, and the Bureau of Parliamentary Studies
- Interaction with the Indian Army and CRPF
This will be followed by a 29-week District Practical Training in their respective cadres. Their training will conclude with Phase-II, starting June 22, 2026, back at SVPNPA.
Leadership Training & Social Sensitisation
To enhance leadership and emotional intelligence, probationers also attend:
- IIM Ahmedabad for leadership modules
- National Forensic Sciences University for practical forensic training
- Visits to orphanages, anti-human trafficking shelters, and public event bandobast duties
As these young officers march in step at the prestigious Dikshant Parade, they carry not just the badge of India’s premier police service but also the weight of public trust and constitutional responsibility. Located in Hyderabad, the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy is India’s apex institution for training officers of the Indian Police Service (IPS).
