IRCON International Limited has been awarded a significant civil construction contract worth ₹458.14 crore by the North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO) for the ambitious Tato-I Hydroelectric Project in Arunachal Pradesh. This order, awarded under Package I of the project, reaffirms IRCON’s strong foothold in delivering complex infrastructure solutions in India’s challenging terrains.
The scope of work under this package includes the construction of crucial components such as the headworks, intake system, head race channel, head race pipe, headrace tunnel, surge shaft, pressure shaft, valve house, powerhouse, and associated infrastructure. The entire project is scheduled to be completed within a 45-month timeline.
IRCON International, formerly known as Indian Railway Construction Company Limited, is a public sector undertaking under the Ministry of Railways. Established in 1976, it specializes in transport infrastructure and engineering construction across railways, highways, and power sectors, both in India and internationally.
NEEPCO, the project-awarding body, is a central public sector enterprise operating under the Ministry of Power, Government of India. Founded in April 1976, NEEPCO is tasked with planning, designing, constructing, and operating power stations in the North Eastern Region. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of NTPC Limited, a Maharatna PSU, and holds the status of a Schedule A – Miniratna Category-I CPSU.
The Tato-I project is expected to play a vital role in harnessing the hydro potential of the region, improving energy infrastructure, and contributing to the overall development of Arunachal Pradesh and the Northeast.
