Giridih, Jharkhand: The picturesque Usri Waterfall in Jharkhand’s Giridih district is poised to become a major eco-tourism destination, as the state government has launched an ambitious development project aimed at enhancing tourism infrastructure while preserving the area’s natural beauty.
On Saturday, Jharkhand Tourism Minister Sudivya Kumar laid the foundation stone for the project, marking a significant step in the Hemant Soren-led government’s efforts to boost tourism and local economic development.
₹10 Crore Allocated for First Phase of Development
According to officials, the first phase of the project has been allocated a budget of ₹10 crore. Giridih Divisional Forest Officer Manish Tiwari said the initial phase will focus on creating basic tourist facilities to make the site more accessible and visitor-friendly.
Planned developments include:
- Construction of a tourist cottage
- Development of a parking facility
- Basic infrastructure to support increased tourist footfall
These upgrades are expected to be completed within the next year, laying the groundwork for further expansion in subsequent phases.
Government’s Focus on Sustainable Tourism
Tourism Minister Sudivya Kumar said the project reflects the state government’s commitment to sustainable and eco-friendly tourism. Speaking to PTI, he noted that Jharkhand possesses immense natural potential, which is now being systematically developed.
“The Hemant Soren government is working with a clear roadmap to strengthen tourism. Projects that earlier moved slowly are now being executed in a time-bound manner,” Kumar said, drawing a contrast with the previous BJP-led administration.
Boost to Local Economy and Employment
Officials believe the transformation of Usri Waterfall into a structured eco-tourism destination will generate local employment opportunities, boost small businesses, and attract both domestic and out-of-state tourists.
Eco-tourism initiatives are also expected to encourage responsible travel, balancing environmental conservation with economic growth for communities living around the waterfall.
Next Phase to Expand Tourist Infrastructure
Once the first phase is completed, authorities plan to further expand amenities at the site, potentially including improved pathways, viewing platforms, and eco-friendly recreational facilities. The long-term vision is to position Usri Waterfall as one of Jharkhand’s key tourist attractions, alongside other natural landmarks in the state.
