Ranchi: In a major boost to industrial development, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren held a high-level meeting with Tata Sons Chairman N. Chandrasekaran in Ranchi on Monday to discuss the New Age Green Advanced Technology Steel Project, hydrogen fuel-based truck manufacturing, and other development initiatives in the state.
₹11,000 Crore Investment in Advanced Technology Steel
During the meeting, Tata Steel confirmed an investment of ₹11,000 crore in Jamsetji’s operations to expand state-of-the-art technology-based steel production. The project aims to:
- Accelerate production processes
- Significantly reduce carbon emissions
- Create a strategically important impact on global steel markets
This investment builds on a memorandum of understanding signed last month at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, between the Tata Group and the Jharkhand government.

Hydrogen Fuel-Based Trucks and Clean Energy Initiatives
Tata Motors will also invest in hydrogen fuel-based truck development and manufacturing in Jamsetji, marking a major step toward clean energy and technological innovation. This initiative aligns with both environmental sustainability and India’s growing green transport sector.
Joint Task Force and Future Industrial Expansion
A joint task force of Tata Group executives, government officials, and experts will be formed to:
- Identify potential investment areas across Jharkhand
- Develop actionable plans for industrial growth
Additionally, Tata Group is exploring investment opportunities in the hotel sector in Ranchi and other cities, as well as partnerships in skill development, advanced technology, and knowledge-based industries.
CSR Expansion and Industry-Government Collaboration
Chandrasekaran emphasized that corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives in Jharkhand will be expanded and strengthened. Chief Minister Hemant Soren reiterated the government’s commitment to providing a collaborative environment for industry-led growth, highlighting that the Tata Group’s journey began in Jharkhand and remains integral to the state’s industrial identity.
Senior Officials Attend High-Level Meeting
The meeting was attended by senior officials including Tata Steel CEO & MD T.V. Narendran, Chief Secretary Avinash Kumar, and other state and company executives. Discussions focused on industrial expansion, technological partnerships, skill development, and clean energy initiatives, underscoring Jharkhand’s potential as a leading industrial hub in India.
