Koderma, Jharkhand: A major geological and radiometric survey has commenced in the Koderma Lok Sabha constituency to explore the potential of rare and strategic minerals, marking a significant development for the region and the country.

The information was shared in the Lok Sabha by Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology Dr. Jitendra Singh, in response to a parliamentary question.

G-4 Level Survey for Strategic and Rare Earth Minerals

The survey is being conducted by the Atomic Minerals Directorate for Exploration and Research (AMD) under the Department of Atomic Energy. The G-4 level geological and radiometric survey aims to assess the presence of Rare Earth Minerals (REMs) and other critical strategic resources in the region.

Rare Earth Minerals are crucial for high-technology industries, including electronics, renewable energy systems, electric vehicles (EVs), defense manufacturing, and advanced communication technologies.

Strategic Importance in the Global Context

Reacting to the development, Koderma MP and Union Minister Annapurna Devi said that Rare Earth Minerals have gained immense importance in the current global geopolitical and industrial landscape.

She stated that if the survey confirms the presence of these minerals, it could become a historic milestone for both Koderma and India’s industrial and strategic growth. The discovery would not only enhance domestic supply chains but also reduce dependence on imports of critical minerals.

Boost to Industry, Investment and Employment

According to the Union Minister, the exploration could open doors for:

  • Large-scale industrial development
  • Increased domestic and foreign investment
  • Significant local employment opportunities
  • Infrastructure growth in Koderma

She emphasized that the mineral potential of the region could accelerate the overall development of Koderma and contribute to India’s economic expansion.

Aligning with Atmanirbhar Bharat Vision

The minister highlighted that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India is moving rapidly towards self-reliance in critical and strategic minerals. The potential mineral wealth of Koderma could play a vital role in achieving the vision of “Atmanirbhar Bharat” (Self-Reliant India).

She further assured that any development would follow a scientific, transparent, and environmentally balanced process. Safeguarding the interests of local communities would remain a top priority while transforming natural resources into sustainable growth and prosperity.

A Turning Point for Jharkhand’s Mineral Economy

Jharkhand is already known for its mineral resources, and the initiation of this survey positions Koderma as a potential new hub for rare and strategic minerals. If successful, the findings could significantly strengthen India’s position in the global critical minerals supply chain.
