New Delhi: In a notable development within the Indian Forest Service, K. Kannan, a 2004-batch officer belonging to the Punjab cadre, has opted for voluntary retirement. The decision has been formalised by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) through an official notification issued on Monday, February 16, 2026.
President Accepts Resignation Under AIS Rules
According to the notification, the President of India has accepted Kannan’s resignation from service under the provisions of the All India Services (Death-cum-Retirement Benefits) Rules, 1958.
The order authorises him to take voluntary retirement from the Indian Forest Service (IFS), bringing an end to his tenure in the All India Service cadre.
