Uttar Pradesh – Kanpur Nagar stood out under UP’s “One River, One District” campaign, earning specific praise from Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on July 9, 2025. The rejuvenation effort, led by Jitendra Pratap Singh, 2013-batch promotee IAS Officer from UP Cadre, as well as 2019-batch IAS officer of UP Cadre, Ms Deeksha Jain, delivered a tangible impact—over 40,000 saplings planted along a 48‑km stretch of riverbank and adjacent government land, with strong community participation adding momentum to the mission.

Monsoon Rains Confirm Revival of River Flow
With the onset of the monsoon, water is now flowing steadily through the previously dry stretch—a visual testament to the success of the rejuvenation initiative. The restored channel highlights effective coordination between district authorities and citizen volunteers as part of a broader ecological strategy.
Structured Work in Panchayats Secures Restoration Gains
Under the leadership of DM Singh and CDO Jain, restoration work encompassed 34 village panchayats, covering approximately 23.5 km of the riverbed. Key highlights include:
- Shivrajpur block: Completed 17.85 km against a target of 17.68 km.
- Chaubepur and Kalyanpur blocks: Met their targets of 4.72 km and 1.05 km respectively.
Local River Restoration Committees—chaired by block and village-level officers—have been established to oversee ongoing maintenance, including desilting and replantation.
Community “Proud Walk” Marks Almost Complete Restoration

On June 18, officials and village residents conducted a 10.18 km “Proud Walk” across a nearly finished stretch; 21.53 km of the planned 23.57 km had been restored by then. Participants marked the occasion with group yoga sessions alongside the river, celebrating civic cooperation and on-ground progress.
