Bengaluru: In a significant administrative move aimed at strengthening urban governance under the newly formed Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA), the Karnataka government has ordered the transfer and posting of senior IAS officers across various newly constituted city corporations in the Bengaluru metropolitan region.
The reshuffle is part of the state government’s broader efforts to decentralize urban administration and improve governance efficiency in the capital city following the restructuring of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP).
Key Appointments Announced
As per the official order, the following IAS officers have been appointed to lead the respective zonal city corporations under the GBA framework-
Rajendra Cholan P, currently serving as Secretary to the Deputy Chief Minister, will hold concurrent charge as Commissioner of Bengaluru Central City Corporation, Greater Bengaluru Authority.
Ramesh D S has been posted as Commissioner, Bengaluru East City Corporation, GBA.
Pommala Sunil Kumar will take over as Commissioner, Bengaluru North City Corporation, GBA.
Ramesh K N has been appointed as Commissioner, Bengaluru South City Corporation, GBA.
Dr. Rajendra K V has been posted as Commissioner, Bengaluru West City Corporation, GBA.
Additional Commissioners (Development) Appointed
In addition to the Commissioners, several IAS officers have been assigned as Additional Commissioners (Development) to drive infrastructure, planning, and development initiatives within their respective jurisdictions:
Latha R – Additional Commissioner (Development), Bengaluru North City Corporation
Pandve Rahul Tukaram – Additional Commissioner (Development), Bengaluru South City Corporation
Lokhande Snehal Sudhakar – Additional Commissioner (Development), Bengaluru East City Corporation
Digvijay Bodke – Additional Commissioner (Development), Bengaluru West City Corporation
Rahul Sharanappa Sankanur – Additional Commissioner (Development), Bengaluru Central City Corporation
Restructuring for Efficient Urban Governance
This reshuffle is seen as a major step in operationalizing the Greater Bengaluru Authority, which has been carved out to replace the sprawling BBMP with five zonal city corporations. Each zone will now function with its own Commissioner and Additional Commissioner, improving decentralization and responsiveness to urban challenges.
The move also reflects the Siddaramaiah government’s intent to streamline urban administration, accelerate infrastructure development, and enhance public service delivery across Bengaluru’s ever-expanding metropolitan region.
