New Delhi / Noida: A major legal development has emerged in the Indian police services’ corridors because an FIR has been registered against Karnataka-cadre IPS officer Shivanshu Rajput (2019-batch) at a Noida police station, following a charged complaint by his wife, Dr Kriti Singh.

IPS officer Shivanshu Rajput FIR case: Allegations in the 41-page complaint

In a detailed 41-page submission lodged at Sector 126 Police Station (Noida) on 16 October,

Dr Singh alleges sustained physical and mental harassment by her husband and in-laws, including demands for dowry.

She states the wedding in December 2021 (held at a five-star hotel in Agra) cost over ₹2 crore – yet pressure for additional dowry persisted.

The FIR names seven persons: IPS officer Rajput, his mother, father, brother-in-law, sister-in-law and two close friends.

She accuses the officer of maintaining extramarital relationships during the marriage — “illicit affairs” — and threatening to abandon her and their young son when questioned.

IPS officer Shivanshu Rajput FIR case: Legal framework & charges

The Noida police have registered the case under multiple sections, including:

Sections under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 (85, 115(2), 352, 351(2), 3(5), 316(2)) Sections 3 and 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961.

Investigations have begun, and statements from the complainant and the accused are yet to be recorded.

Background & implications of the IPS officer Shivanshu Rajput FIR case

While IPS officers often operate at the highest levels of law enforcement, such domestic allegations involving one open a sensitive front.

The case comes at a time when awareness about domestic violence, dowry harassment and abuse of power is high in India.

The involvement of a senior police officer adds a dimension of public interest — scrutiny of the force’s internal ethical safeguards and accountability. The extramarital affair allegation, if substantiated, could further complicate the legal as well as social fallout.

What the IPS officer Shivanshu Rajput say

As of now, there has been no public comment from Rajput or his legal team. The denial of allegations or official version of events is awaited — which may later impact public perception and legal strategy.

What happens next?

The Noida police will record witness statements, including that of Dr Singh and the named accused.

Forensic and documentary evidence— wedding invoices, communications, CCTV or phone data — may become key.

The case could trigger departmental proceedings against the officer, given the service code of conduct, if allegations prove credible.

Public interest and media scrutiny are likely to remain high, adding pressure for swift and transparent action.

Importance of IPS officer Shivanshu Rajput FIR case

Symbolic: When a member of the police service is under the scanner for such allegations, it forces reflection on institutional culture and pressure points within families of high-rank officials.

Legal precedence: Use of newer sections under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023 combined with older legislation indicates how domestic abuse law is evolving in India.

Media & social angle: The story touches dowry, domestic violence, high-status marriage, power dynamics and illicit relationships — all elements that drive reader interest and debate.
