The Kuno National Park (KNP) has developed a crucial fix to protect its Cheetahs from septicaemia infection — that they might accrue from the region’s persistent rainfall. All the 13 cheetahs brought to Kuno National Park (KNP) from South Africa and Namibia are being given anti-acto parasite medicine to protect them from infection.
The director at KNP, Mr. Uttam Sharma, mentioned, “We have started stabilising the cheetahs with the onset of the rainy season and applying anti-acto parasite medicine sourced from South Africa. We are going to apply this drug on the bodies of all 13 adult cheetahs of KNP spread over an area of 1,235 sq km including the buffer zone of Sheopur district.”
Once applied, the immunity from this medication lasts for three to four months. The forest officials are extra cautious this time, having learnt from the deaths of three Cheetahs from septicaemia last year.
