New Delhi: The Government of India has issued a clarification regarding circulating reports and social media posts claiming revised LPG refill booking timelines. The misinformation suggested timelines of 45 days for PMUY connections, 25 days for non-PMUY single bottle connections, and 35 days for non-PMUY double bottle connections.
The Government has clarified that no such changes have been made. The existing booking timelines remain unchanged –
- 25 days for urban areas
- 45 days for rural areas
These timelines apply irrespective of the connection type, including both PMUY and non-PMUY connections.
Government Advisory to Citizens
Authorities have urged citizens –
- Not to believe or circulate misinformation regarding LPG refill schedules.
- Avoid unnecessary or panic booking of LPG refills, as the stock situation is stable.
It was reiterated that adequate LPG stocks are available across the country, and there is no cause for concern regarding supply.
LPG to PNG Switch Mandatory
The government has announced that households must switch to piped natural gas (PNG) where available, or face discontinuation of LPG supply. This move is part of efforts to expand the gas network and reduce dependence on a single fuel.
The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has instructed hotels and restaurants not to impose extra charges like “LPG fees” or “fuel cost recovery,” labeling such practices as unfair and punishable.
According to Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, 2.5 million new PNG connections have been added in the last 25 days, with around 2.2 million consumers converting from LPG to PNG. The Ministry has also received 2.5 million new applications.
The government reassured the public that there is no shortage of petrol, diesel, or LPG, urging citizens to ignore social media rumours and avoid panic buying. All refineries are operating at high capacity with sufficient crude and fuel stocks, and retail outlets are functioning normally across the country.
