Lansdowne, Uttarakhand | June 28, 2025 — In a solemn ceremony filled with tradition and military pride, Lieutenant General Dinesh Singh Rana officially assumed charge as the 23rd Colonel of the Regiment of the Garhwal Rifles. The event took place at the Garhwal Rifles Regimental Centre in Lansdowne, Uttarakhand, with full ceremonial honours.
Leadership Transitions with Legacy in Focus
Lt Gen Rana succeeds Lieutenant General N.S. Raja Subramani, the former Vice Chief of the Army Staff. During his tenure, Lt Gen Subramani strengthened regimental cohesion and preserved core values that have shaped generations of Garhwali soldiers.
The new Colonel of the Regiment brings with him vast operational experience. As Commander-in-Chief of the Andaman and Nicobar Command, Lt Gen Rana has demonstrated both tactical acumen and a deep understanding of military heritage. His appointment is expected to further strengthen the regiment’s spirit and direction.

After inspecting the Guard of Honour, Lt Gen Rana paid homage to the regiment’s fallen heroes at the War Memorial. He assured the troops of his commitment to uphold the unit’s ethos, stating his resolve to honour their sacrifices with renewed focus on discipline, camaraderie, and excellence.
