During his Pragati Yatra visit on January 12, CM Nitish Kumar made nine significant development announcements for Madhubani district, all of which have now been approved by the Bihar government. District Magistrate Mr. Anand Sharma (2013-batch IAS officer) conducted a high-level review meeting with senior officials to assess the implementation progress of these schemes and instructed departments to accelerate land acquisition processes to meet deadlines.
Focus on Timely Execution and Land Acquisition
Mr. Sharma directed that land acquisition work for each project be reviewed daily by concerned departments, especially by the DCLR. He also asked the Municipal Commissioner to promptly finalize an agency for the proposed inter-state bus stand. Additionally, while reviewing the Mithila Haat expansion, he issued detailed guidelines to ensure its timely execution.
The meeting was attended by Additional Collector Mr. Mukesh Ranjan Jha, ADM Disaster Mr. Santosh Kumar, DPRO Mr. Parimal Kumar, Sadar DCLR, and other officials.
Approved Development Projects in Madhubani
1. Interlinking of Kamla-Purani Kamla-Jeevchha River:
At a cost of Rs. 426.01 crore, this river interlinking project aims to enhance irrigation and flood control capabilities in the region.
2. Expansion of Western Kosi Canal Branches:
- Bideshwar Sthan sub-branch canal will be expanded with Rs. 266.53 crore.
- Ugranath branch canal will see an upgrade with Rs. 481.60 crore investment.
3. Mithila Haat Expansion (Rs. 7.78 crore):
Tourism promotion will be boosted with the development of an amusement park at Mithila Haat, expected to improve the local economy and ease tourist movement.
4. Inter-State Bus Terminal at Rampatti (Rs. 14.53 crore):
This terminal will decongest city traffic and reduce pollution in Madhubani.
5. ROB near Jayanagar Shaheed Chowk (Rs. 178 crore):
A new Railway Over Bridge will reduce travel time and improve market access.
6. Madhubani Ring Road (Rs. 293.95 crore):
A ring road connecting Kanakpur to Jagatpur, and further to Pandaul, will improve city traffic flow and ease logistics.
7. Industrial Development (Rs. 132.78 crore):
An industrial area over 500 acres will be developed near Bangama village, Laukahi block, near NH-27, supporting local employment and entrepreneurship.
8. Tourist Expansion of Fulhar (Rs. 31.13 crore):
The historic Fulhar site—believed to be the first meeting place of Maa Sita and Lord Ram—will be developed into a major tourist destination.
9. Flight Operations from Madhubani Airport:
The state has approached the Ministry of Civil Aviation to include Madhubani Airport under the UDAN scheme for small aircraft operations. Follow-up action is underway.
