Mumbai: Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL) has announced the appointment of Deepak Gupta, Chairman and Managing Director of GAIL (India) Limited, as its new Chairman of the Board, effective from 01 March 2026. With over 35 years of extensive experience in the oil and gas sector, Mr. Gupta is set to lead MGL’s growth in CNG, PNG, and clean energy solutions.
Industry Veteran Joins MGL Leadership
Mr. Gupta, a Mechanical Engineering alumnus from Delhi College of Engineering, brings a wealth of expertise spanning project and construction management, contracts, global procurement, technology selection, business development, and operations. His leadership is marked by a strategic approach to large-scale energy infrastructure and clean energy adoption.
Key Achievements at GAIL
Since joining GAIL (India) Limited as Director (Projects) in February 2022, Mr. Gupta has overseen several high-impact initiatives:
- Expansion and maintenance of over 20,000 km of natural gas and LPG pipelines
- Implementation of SCADA systems for efficient operations
- Execution of green energy projects aligned with Net-Zero goals
- Successful completion of the Dabhol Breakwater Project under Konkan LNG Limited
- Digital transformation initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and transparency
Global Projects and Industry Contributions
Throughout his career, Mr. Gupta has contributed to major international and national projects:
- Dangote Refinery and Petrochemical Complex, Nigeria
- HM EL’s mega petrochemical complex at Bathinda, India
- GAIL’s petrochemical expansion at Pata
- Mongolia’s first greenfield refinery project
He has also held leadership roles in Talcher Fertilizers Limited, ONGC Petro-additions Limited, Green Gas Limited, Maharashtra Natural Gas Limited, and South-East Asia Gas Pipeline Company Limited.
