Mumbai: In a strategic move aimed at strengthening administrative efficiency ahead of critical events such as the upcoming Nashik Kumbh Mela, the Maharashtra government has executed a major reshuffle in the Indian Administrative Service (IAS). As many as seven senior IAS officers were reassigned on the same day the state cabinet convened, signaling a decisive shift in governance and planning priorities.
Shekhar Singh Appointed Kumbh Mela Commissioner, Nashik
One of the most notable appointments is that of Mr. Shekhar Singh, the outgoing Municipal Commissioner of Pimpri Chinchwad, who has been named Commissioner for the 2027 Nashik Kumbh Mela. This high-profile assignment reflects the government’s early and serious preparations for the massive religious gathering, which draws millions of devotees from across the country and abroad.
Environmental Oversight: M. Devendra Singh Joins MPCB
Mr. M. Devendra Singh, previously the District Collector of Ratnagiri, has been appointed as the new Member Secretary of the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB), headquartered in Mumbai. In this role, Singh will be responsible for overseeing key environmental regulations, pollution mitigation efforts, and industrial compliance across the state.
Jalaj Sharma Elevated to Lead Nashik Metropolitan Authority
Mr. Jalaj Sharma, who was serving as the District Collector of Nashik, will now assume charge as the Metropolitan Commissioner of the Nashik Metropolitan Region Development Authority (NMRDA). His elevation is expected to bring momentum to ongoing urban development and infrastructure projects in the region.
Ayush Prasad and Rohan Ghughe Swap District Collector Roles
In another important transfer, Mr. Ayush Prasad, previously District Collector of Jalgaon, has been moved to Nashik to fill the vacancy left by Sharma. Simultaneously, Mr. Rohan Ghughe, who served as CEO of Zilla Parishad, Thane, takes over as the new District Collector of Jalgaon.
Sanjay Kolte Becomes Sugar Commissioner, Pune
Mr. Sanjay Kolte, formerly the Managing Director of the Shivshahi Rehabilitation Project in Mumbai, has been appointed as the Sugar Commissioner of Maharashtra. The post, based in Pune, had been lying vacant and is crucial for policy implementation and regulatory oversight in the state’s vital sugar sector.
Manoj Jindal Appointed Ratnagiri Collector
Lastly, Mr. Manoj Jindal, Joint Managing Director of the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), has been assigned the role of District Collector of Ratnagiri, replacing M. Devendra Singh.
