New Delhi: India’s infrastructure transformation under the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan (PMGS NMP) continues at a robust pace, with 293 infrastructure projects worth ₹13.59 lakh crore already evaluated by the Network Planning Group (NPG). Minister of State for Commerce & Industry, Jitin Prasada, shared this update in a written reply in the Lok Sabha on August 5.
Launched in October 2021, the PMGS NMP has become a cornerstone of India’s integrated infrastructure vision. It leverages advanced geospatial technology, multi-source data integration, and real-time planning tools to streamline infrastructure development across sectors.
Network Planning Group Institutionalised for Holistic Planning
The institutionalisation of the NPG mechanism has enabled coordinated evaluation of infrastructure proposals. This approach ensures integrated planning, multi-modal connectivity, inter-departmental synchronisation, and focus on last-mile delivery within project catchment areas.
So far, the platform has facilitated strategic assessment of nearly 300 projects cutting across road, rail, ports, energy, and urban infrastructure sectors.
Expanding Ministerial and State Participation
A total of 57 Central Ministries and Departments have been onboarded under the PMGS NMP. This includes 8 infrastructure ministries, 22 social sector ministries, and 27 covering economic and other areas. The platform also has participation from 36 States and Union Territories.
Data mapping is a key pillar of PMGS. Nearly 1,700 geospatial data layers have been integrated into the platform—969 from States/UTs and 731 from Central Ministries and Departments. These datasets enhance project visualisation and planning precision.
Support for States Through Capital Investment Scheme
While PM GatiShakti has no standalone fund allocation, the Department of Expenditure under the Ministry of Finance earmarked ₹5,000 crore in FY 2022–23 for States under Part-II of the “Scheme for Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment.” This financial support is aligned with GatiShakti’s objectives to spur state-level infrastructure development.
The onboarding of 36 additional Ministries and Departments since inception further reflects the Centre’s commitment to a whole-of-government approach.
