Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) has set a new benchmark in the coal sector, achieving a record 225.2 million tonnes (MT) of coal production in the financial year 2024-25, reflecting an impressive 9% growth over the previous fiscal year.

Reaffirming its commitment to India’s energy security, MCL also recorded its highest-ever coal dispatch of 210.5 MT, marking a 6% increase over FY 2023-24. Coal supply to the power sector surged from 150 MT in FY 2024 to 158 MT in FY 2025, a 5% rise.
In another major milestone, MCL registered a 22% growth in overburden removal (OBR), reaching 338 million cubic meters (MCuM) compared to the previous year. This achievement is expected to enhance coal production capacity in the coming years.
MCL’s Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD), Mr. Uday A. Kaole, congratulated the workforce, including officers, employees, and stakeholders, for their contribution to the company’s success.
Beyond its operational achievements, MCL remained the largest corporate social responsibility (CSR) spender in Odisha, allocating Rs. 215 crore in FY 2024-25 for various socio-economic development projects, particularly in remote coalfield areas.
As India’s largest coal-producing company, MCL operates across Sundergarh, Jharsuguda, and Angul districts of Odisha. With its consistent performance, MCL continues to play a vital role in ensuring the nation’s energy security and sustainable industrial growth.
