Bhopal: Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav emphasized the importance of mass marriages during the Mass Kanya Vivah ceremony at Bageshwar Dham, urging families to avoid lavish wedding expenditures.
Mass Marriages: A Practical Solution for Modern Society
Addressing the newlywed couples, Dr. Yadav said that mass marriages are the most effective way to solemnize marriages while promoting financial prudence. “Extravagant weddings are a cause for concern in society. Thriftiness is essential. Our society is undergoing transformation, and with changing times, we must also change our mindset,” he said.
The Chief Minister shared that he personally conducted his son’s wedding in a mass marriage ceremony in Ujjain, emphasizing that savings from such events could be used for other family needs.
Call to End Extravagance in Social Functions
Dr. Yadav urged citizens to avoid unnecessary spending in weddings and death ceremonies, calling these mass weddings a sacred ritual akin to a yajna. “Good deeds are what remain memorable,” he added. He highlighted government initiatives such as support for cancer care in Chhatarpur by Prime Minister Narendra Modi as an example of promoting cultural and social welfare.
Government Support for Newlyweds
The Chief Minister assured that the government would assist all newly married couples in employment and self-employment opportunities. He also highlighted the spiritual and cultural significance of marriage, describing it as one of the sixteen major life rituals guiding individuals toward dharma, artha, kama, and moksha.
At the ceremony, Dr. Yadav extended his blessings to over 300 newlyweds and praised Bageshwar Dham for promoting Sanatan culture. He mentioned that the state government provides ₹51,000 for daughters’ weddings under the Mukhyamantri Samuhik Kanya Vivah Yojana.
Promoting Cultural Values Through Mass Marriages
Dr. Yadav emphasized that, according to Sanatan traditions, there are three auspicious dates for conducting weddings without specific muhurats: Dev Uthani Ekadashi, Basant Panchami, and Akshaya Tritiya. Mass marriages on these dates help reduce unnecessary expenses and encourage positive societal change.
Pandit Dhirendra Krishna Shastri, Peethadhishwar of Bageshwar Dham, praised the Chief Minister for his contributions to temples, cow shelters, and community welfare. Local MLA Arvind Pateria noted that this was the seventh mass marriage ceremony held at Bageshwar Dham.

The event was attended by Minister of Animal Husbandry & Dairy Lakhan Patel, Minister of Forest & Environment Dilip Ahirwar, Khajuraho MP Vishnudatt Sharma, MLAs Bhagwandas Sabnani and Lalita Yadav, former MLA Pradyumn Singh, along with other public representatives, saints, and a large number of devotees.
